Joseph Bonaparte and the Roi de Rome 1828-1833

Joseph Bonaparte and the Roi de Rome 1828-1833 - 2018.

Joseph’s position as head of the family really tried to put the Duke of Reichstadt on the French throne instead of Louis-Philippe, a campaign that was to be bogged down by misfortunes and indecision. In a letter to Metternich, dated 9 October 1830, Joseph explicitly noted that he had been waiting the right moment, i.e., the July revolution. Joseph did in fact stage a campaign to support the ‘Napoleonist’ opposition and did make real attempts to forge a Joseph-led Republican / ‘Napoleonist’ coalition to place the Duc de Reichstadt on the French throne.
