This short note presents an unpublished eye-witness account of Chinese indentured workers in St Helena during the period of Napoleon’s captivity. Catherine Younghusband and her daughter were well-known figures on the island during the captivity period. She was known to Napoleon and friendly with the Grand Maréchal Bertrand and his family. She also gave music lessons to the Bertrand children. Her dialogues are held at the British Library in the Mark Wilks Papers.
