Supporting Political Mobilization through Images: Contentious Photography in Yemen - 2013.

62

Revisiting the initial phase in the contentious mobilizations initiated in 2011 in Yemen, this paper undertakes a visual narrative reconstruction of a revolutionary process of political change through the work of politically committed photographers. Analyzing the politics of contestation through the work of photographers who camp out in occupied spaces in order to protest allows us to show use of visual resources against domination. By studying the intersection between space, photography, and the politics of contestation, the paper examines the uses of photography as support for the protest and as a device for raising political awareness.
