Bourdieu and psychoanalysis

Bourdieu and psychoanalysis - 2024.

How does one account for the psychoanalytic lexicon and the references to Freud that pervade Bourdieu’s work? We first show that his most common uses of psychoanalytical vocabulary—starting with the word “unconscious”—create double-entendre words denoting schemes of interpretation that are homologous in form but distinct in content. We then proceed to show that the superposition of sociological and psychoanalytical interpretations is ultimately superseded by a connection of the two registers through the outline of a theory of the socialization of the libido.
