The constitution of Christian subjects was at the heart of the missionary endeavor in Africa. This strategy of domestication of the everyday lives of Africans took place, most notably, by the delimitation of bastions of Christian faith. Here, the repertory of rural life had a defining role, which involved the ordering of domestic space and the cult of agricultural work. However, the historical consequences of this missionary project have been paradoxical.
