Brittany is a useful case for understanding the distortion between the existence of a potential for identity and the weak influence of ethno-regionalist parties. In this region, regionalist forces have never succeeded in achieving significant political results. Thus the Democratic Union of Brittany ( Union Démocratique Bretonne – UDB) comes across as an exception because this party structured a left-wing regionalist movement until the middle of the 1960s.
