This article deals with the different uses of negativity in the context of post-Soviet Russia, characterized by processes of opening and closing of the political game. It analyzes how the country’s specific trajectory and successive power configurations led to the emergence of “black technologies” to discredit opponents before the rejection of the 1990s, of the abrupt transition to democracy and capitalism, and of the leaders of that time became the main legitimation strategy since Vladimir Putin came to power. Finally, it shows how, for some years now, the democratic opposition has appropriated some negative strategies in order to challenge the current political regime.
