The two authors defend the idea that description is one of the main methodological requirements for gaining an understanding of the subject’s actual practices. They reflect on epistemological and psychosocial obstacles between experiencing something and being able to produce a description of it which is theoretically, methodologically and technically grounded. Drawing on the results of a study in which data was collected through explicitation interviews, they show how professionals trained in the use of explicitation techniques integrate these resources into their professional stance.
