Joint Fostering of Siblings: Interest and Limitations - 2008.

This article is a prospective study of the problem of finding a foster home for siblings who have to be taken away from their parents. In order to identify the interest in and limitations of joint placement in the same home, the researchers encountered professionals working with these children for the organisation “SOS Villages d’Enfants”. This study, based on the analysis of focus groups, provides us with a better view of the fraternal ties that exist between siblings, in both its protectivesupportive and its more destructive dimensions. The study also shows the need to assess the effects of joint fostering homes more carefully and to determine the indicators that will enable professionals to assess the advantages and the risks of joint fostering. These conclusions require a more finely-tuned and systematic study of placing siblings in the same foster home, which would be of both clinical and theoretical interest.
