The contemporary outline of associative volunteering tends to become more complex. The fallacy of an upcoming crisis hides in reality deeper changes in associative commitment. The longitudinal analysis of the members’ socio-cultural and socio-professional profiles in two INSEE studies between 1982 and 2002 shows that, nowadays, becoming active within an association mobilizes the members’ professional qualities and experiences as much as their own convictions.
