Jacques Bidet proposes an ambitious project aimed at a refoundation of Marxism, and which endeavours to unify political philosophy and social theory in a way that takes into account both the evolution of contemporary history and recent advances within the social sciences. His book can perhaps also be read from the perspective of the ethics of discussion, in which case it emerges as an original contribution, which seeks to overcome certain difficulties stemming from the particular manner in which Haberrnas has sought to understand and to carry out the programme of an ethics of discussion.
