(Non-)conclusive voices: Brayan and Percival - 2021.

What does it mean to read others carefully when Brayan, a 16-year-old student, expresses his and his classmates’ dismay while reading a parodic dialogue of the Quest for the Grail? While all of us were supposed to laugh at the lexical procrastinations of Percival, the victim of Arthur’s sarcasm who is unable to make his demands heard, Brayan made me understand that he and his classmates often find themselves struggling with language problems in which they can’t find their voice. In the interruption created by this claim, Brayan made me understand that I had assigned to the class an overarching role that was only mine. This moment of pedagogical counter-rhythm made ethics visible and made me understand the question of attention and care for the voices of others as a moral problem.
