Local resources in a context of health restrictions: a study of students in a working-class suburb of Paris - 2024.
37
The health restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 crisis were particularly strict in France and had a significant impact on the socialisation of university students. This article is based on fieldwork conducted in a working-class suburb of Paris in the context of the health crisis and the limitations of social interactions to the immediate environment, looking at the role of local resources for students (in terms of immediate social ties and the urban space). Although these resources are shown to be a form of protection against the isolation resulting from increased distancing of university socialisation, they are nevertheless unevenly distributed and limited in terms of gender. They may even be in contradiction with university socialisation for those who have limited legitimate cultural resources and may thus contribute to accentuating inequalities.
