Even with the financial difficulties currently encountered in Europe, politics of reintroduction of the tramway are continuing in European cities which had more or less abandoned this mode of transit. There are noticeable differences between the objectives displayed, which, according to the situation, emphasize mobility policies and/or urban policies. This comparative analysis focuses on countries that have never fully abandoned the tram (Germany, Switzerland), and countries that had completely abandoned it (Spain, France).
