It may seem surprising to reconcile dignity and value rationality in Raymond Boudon’s plea for the objectivity of ethical values. Yet he saw in it the central value of our Western modernity, dominating our entire moral hierarchy. It is on this unknown role of the principle of equal dignity in Raymond Boudon’s thought that the emphasis will be placed in this article, from which his theory of axiological rationality will also be questioned.
