The speech of some men in Dakar highlights their difficulties dealing with the forms of transactional sexuality in which they are involved. These men design and carry out defence strategies to make sure their suitors and girlfriends do not have an economic interest in the relation. They consider that female manœuvres undermine their privileges, and use a wide scope of knowledge coming from peers, Senegalese migrants, and TV series to thwart the materialistic ambitions they attribute to women. The article shows that male homosocial spaces are places of learning and sharing, where this knowledge circulates at different scales and through various media.
