This article analyses how the Marrons-unis, dignes et courageux (m-udc), an Afrocentric Pan-Africanist organisation based in Ile-de-France, took up the issue of the restitution of African heritage between June and December 2020. It highlights the neo-traditional and religious meaning investing their claims, where the restitution of African heritage is a means to restore “authentic Africa” and to save humanity as a whole. To this end, it traces the political subjectivation of these activists, positioning it in the long history of restitution requests and examining the way it is embedded in their restitution project.
