Alzheimer’s disease alters language, praxis, judgment, communication, and relationships with loved ones and the surrounding world. However, we will show that people with Alzheimer’s retain a narrative capacity until the end and should not be defined by the apparent cumulative losses of their illnesses. The author, who has significant experience working with Alzheimer’s patients, draws on her clinical, philosophical, and teaching practice of narrative medicine, to provide keys that may help build resilience using the ethics of small perceptions.
