How can observation bring anything new to clinical research and the relation of the subject to the social links? Such is the question we shall attempt to formulate. Starting with social observation, we will show that the nonconsideration of the impossible in the narrative of observation can very quickly prove to be harmful to the subject. This is the situation we will describe in the case of a teenager in this difficult transition from the family to society. The putting into perspective of this relationship between “social observation” and “clinical observation” comes to reveal the limits of an observation that is sliding towards evaluation and control.
