It is important for everyone to build a gender identity, to feel that they exist as man or woman or other in their relationship to themselves, but also to feel recognized and respected in their relationship to the other or to others, whether in a romantic relationship, in a couple, in the family, in groups of friends, at work, or in general society.Six essential components are proposed that weave together this feeling of gender identity: genetic components, hormonal components, imitation and identification, sexual attractions, romantic relationships, and belonging to a peer group.Certain failures during this journey, and the consequences of these failures, are touched upon.
