The extensive and eclectic work of Kierkegaard must be understood as an organized totality. Although written in a relatively short period of time, and marked by very different rhythms and styles, it is unified towards one thought—that of the singular. One of the gateways to this thought is time, understood in several different ways which should be grasped dialectically: the time lived by the author, the literary time of writing, the narrative time of the characters, and time as conceived by the philosopher.
