The Boundaries of Family Relationships in the Comoro Islands - 2011.

64

Today, most of the families scattered across the archipelago of the Comoros are primarily families fragmented by a political border. Whenever the illness of a child is the cause of family dispersion in a logic of access to health care, transnational ties are specifically put to the test. This article contributes to the debate on transnational families through an anthropological analysis of the “care networks” surrounding sick children, in an archipelago where traditional migratory movements now face severe restrictions. The aim is to historicize a transnational space to highlight the changes and patterns in the conditions of living at a distance.
