Sexual pleasure is a cultural and social construct whose analysis cannot be separated from its biological and psychological explanation. Because of its power, it is strictly controlled and is part of a complex system of norms and taboos. Based on results obtained from an ethnography in the rural and urban areas of Cochabamba, in the Bolivian Andes, this article aims to interpret the practices and representations related to the difference in access to sexual pleasure by focusing the analysis on the complexity of gender and generational relationships, where domination relations continue to prevail. It will finally show how women, bypassing some social norms, express their desires and seek other forms of pleasure.
