The power of social connection: this is the subject of Le Cousin Pons, whose poetics is, for us, determined essentially by a vision of society as a rhizome, endlessly expanding and torn apart by conflicts. My article thus considers how this novel presents social forms created and, at the same time contaminated, by the proliferation of connections. Nevertheless, Le Cousin Pons represents not only a progression toward the end (of man and of the narrative) but also what escapes or resists the functioning of society.
