Presenting the theme of the end of life from a historical and legal perspective is a privilege, but also a challenge. Death was an unavoidable moment for everyone in the “old days” just as it is today, but in those times death was seen as a part of life associated above all with religion. Today, questions about the end of life are more scientific and ethical. Formerly, death was seen as the natural moment when one's existence came to an end. Today, demographic changes and the possibilities of medicalized survival have given rise to debates on the subject of euthanasia. This historical and legal approach to the end of life, then, must be no more than a presentation of differences, even if it may perhaps be possible to find certain elements of modern thinking on the subject here and there.
