Fractures in the Existential Foundation in Drug Addiction

Fractures in the Existential Foundation in Drug Addiction - 2006.
37
In “essential drug addiction” (which should be distinguished from “symptomatic drug addictions” involved in psychoses, neuroses, or perversions) the existential basis of the subject, where his thymos is based (“mood” or Stimmung), is fractured. A deep and archaic breach occurred in the primary bond with the mother so that the body did not find its closure. The function of drugs is to close this breach and to serve as prosthesis. But these subjects, who are very similar in certain regards to psychotic patients, belong to a rather psychopathic instinctual organization.
