An Uncanny Familiarity

An Uncanny Familiarity - 2013.

45

The encounter with some Arab female patients who have experienced traumatic situations, in connection with anthropological conditions, confronts the analyst (a woman) to the uncanny and an avalanche of emotions that undermine the benevolent neutrality and asymmetry of the analytic situation. Some situations cause shock or a psychological reaction in the analyst, and face her with the limits of what can be analyzed. Here, in the light of a clinical case, the author reconsiders the theory of penis envy in relation to the bedrock of society.
