Based on various research studies organized with professionals from the medico-social field, we “analyze the symptom” of our modern civilization. The tentacles of evaluation are reaching into all sectors of human activity, considering the human being as one statistical fact among others. Some, following Christian Laval, have spoken of a “veritable anthropological mutation.” This “mutation” has its counterpart in architectural construction with the creation of “insular cities”: we are faced, then, with a set of socio-spatial phenomena that are not only modifying the urban landscape but also the spaces of sociability. What are the discursive structures in the social domain that lead to this mutation of subjectivity? How should we respond to the security-minded policies which are increasingly being implanted in our life? We will see, with reference to a concrete example, what the possible measures of resistance are.
