Catastrophic Filiation and Memory Work after the Shoah: When Free Development of the Family Tree Serves Historicisation - 2016.

The present article seeks to show how a mass crime, such as genocide, leads to psychic repercussions over a number of generations in what can be considered to be a catastrophe of filiation. How then can people fit into a link of filiation to write their own story of beginnings when the horror experienced forever stifles the life out of memory, the spoken word and transmission? It is through this projective mediation of the free development of the family tree that we shall seek to explore these issues through a case study. In the space of the intermediate encounter, while respecting the subject’s defensive arrangements, the work of perlaboration becomes possible. It will be seen how the mediating and projective dimension of the provision comes in to serve the work of historicisation and remembering of the family and collective history.
