The experimentation of parental groups and their effect on therapeutic processes in the context of childhood welfare is considered. The use of mediating objects is envisaged as a form of support to individual and familial processes. A five-year long experiment (“Chemins de Parents”, or Parents’ Pathways) showed that play can become a third-party space when thinking cannot get around things and speaking out is no longer an option.The theoretical groundings that formed the basis for work with families over several months are outlined and the actual substance of the care provision is described. It is seen how an object of game-based mediation opened up new paths in terms of accompaniment, pushing professional carers to move out of the conventional and easing the parents’ capacity to express forms of distress that are difficult to bring out into the open.
