Family suffering during the perinatal period and the risk of undifferentiation of psychic envelopes - 2021.

Birth is the privileged place of transgenerational transmission. It must allow parents to find the support they’re entitled to. It is defined by an identity upheaval that affects the baby, his or her parents, and, more generally, the whole family, but also the professionals and the teams who work with them. The family suffering then generated is a risk for the construction of differentiated psychic envelopes for each subject and group. As they feed psychopathology, they need to be recognized and contained. An observation within a family illustrates this. During the perinatal period, multidisciplinary teams attempt to overcome the failures of these envelopes; these teams address the anxiety and desire of the baby by assuming a grandparental transferential role. At the societal level, the brevity of parental leave, individualism, and the growing place of professionals condition this vulnerability.
