The two authors of this paper discuss the needs of neglected or insufficiently satisfied babies in very early interactions where parents reproduce transgenerational disorders. Such parents offer excessive or insufficient care to their baby. This has consequences on psychological construction. The authors stress that, in evaluations and in therapy, therapists must be empathetic. The authors present their approach to co-therapy. One of the therapists focuses on the parents and the interactions with their baby, the other uses the “baby-observation technique” to understand him better and to induce an empathetic identification in the parents. This paper uses a case study to illustrate the therapeutic means used in this type of co-therapy.
