This article looks at the place of dance in a perinatal service. To what extent can dance facilitate bonding? How can it underpin the creation of a sufficiently adequate bond between mother and baby? To what extent can it underpin the creation of a choreography of the primordial encounter? Based on our doctoral research, which is founded on the relations between dance, psychoanalysis and perinatal clinical work, we will attempt to explore these questions by studying a dyad that took part in “Accordanse”, a dance-mediated care and research programme for mothers and their babies.
