Retraining in agricultural work: a return to the land - 2023.

‪Based on a study carried out in the Île-de-France region, this article re-examines the cultural, political and economic frameworks that underpin the beliefs of aspiring farmers taking up agricultural work. These career plans, often synonymous with seeking alternative ways of living, are no longer based on political confrontation and/or a voluntary isolation from society, but on a process of self-reflection, a search for personal and professional fulfilment. These aspiring farmers are more likely to believe that they understand the profession, whose traditional model they reject as being incompatible with their ecological and ethical aspirations, and seek to recreate it anew. Support structures therefore struggle to understand and accompany their entry into agricultural professions.‪
