From the outset, Emmanuel Macron had no predisposition to take a particular interest in international and defense issues. But his desire to see France shine once again on the international scene prompted him to follow in the footsteps of General de Gaulle. The only difference is that the desire to pursue an independent defense policy is no longer confined to the national level but the European level. This is the purpose of his project for a European Intervention Initiative, which is part of a broader framework than that of the European Union.
