The Migratory Behaviors of Students and Young Graduates - 2008.
29
Until now, analyses of migrations of young people linked to French higher education focused only on costs and benefits. Whether they deal with current students or new graduates trying to enter the labor market, they consider strategies for job searching and the efficiency of studying. Until now, these analyses took no account of the geographic context. Today, national statistical data allow us to study regional migrations by both students and graduates and to answer questions such as: Do they migrate in the same way? Do regions influence the way in which they migrate? These results explain three developments. The first relates to the main characteristics of migrations by students and graduates. The second considers links between migrations and social belonging and the characteristics of education, while the third and final development focuses on regional dimensions of such migrations.
