Before the Second World War, the unification of the Baltic region was variously conceived by the leading figures of the Nazi regime. Germany’s successes during the war inspired ambitious plans, but no standard vision appeared. While the intention of forming a Greater Germanic Reich around the Baltic Sea came into play in 1941, the outline evolved little by little, while the aspiration itself remained hidden and caused tension within the regime.
