A two-speed energy transition? How inequalities in contribution renew dividing lines in cities - 2024.

The possibility of acting in support of the ecological cause is frequently framed around an ecology of responsible gestures, which makes environmental practices a matter of individual conscience. As a result, citizen involvement has become a structuring element of public policies for the energy transition, where the modalities of participation are essentially based on the figure of “homo ecologicus” (Comby 2013). However, the place given to local residents and the opportunities for them to contribute to the common good of green energy differ depending on whether the project is aimed at working-class or more well-off neighborhoods. These differentiated forms of resident participation are likely to induce forms of ecological inequality, renewing the dividing lines in the city.
