Russian society is more diverse than the image that the official media portrays. A culture of political conformity has not stopped demands from being expressed. The Russia of the major metropolises must also be distinguished from that of other regions that are far from the center. This allows us to perceive deep inequalities. A nationalistic conservatism coexists alongside postmodern features, and the country is oscillating between a desire to open up and isolationism.
