Understanding the collective emotion caused by the fire at Notre-Dame is to try to shed light on what is happening to us. What was/is, therefore, Notre-Dame’s great treasure? What is it about the parts that remain of its Gothic lattices that still make us stand together, whether we are members of the faithful, urban dwellers, citizens, or simply human beings? The process of shedding light on this matter plays a role in creating the meaning that is to be ascribed to the rebuilding of Notre-Dame.
