To detain strategic information about one another has always been a stake. Entering the industrial marketing world and the correlative development of the offer, the will to know people as potential consumers appeared : polls developed to gather collective information pieces about practices, opinions, etc. The internet introduces a break allowing the sharpest knowledge of individual practices : each transaction leaves a trace on the network, processing allows to stock and gather automatically information pieces concerning each, risking impairment to individual liberties. The Cnil (national commission for information and liberties), authority instituted by the Information and Liberties law (1978), is aimed at ensuring citizens’ rights’ respect confronted to still more intrusive technologies.
