This paper consists in an analysis of Internet newsgroups as argumentative discussion devices through a comparison with letters to the Editor. This work belongs to the field of interactional analysis of argumentative discourse and studies three aspects: the dialogal dimension, the construction of the self and the argumentative moves. It assumes that both media can be considered as supporting citizens’ political expression, but that only the newsgroup may permit an horizontal argumentative discussion between citizens.
