When voices are heard in different languages: radio and linguistic marginalisation - 2023.

This article examines the effects of the French context on the diversity of languages and varieties of French heard on radio. Contradictions and tensions emerge between French-centred regulation and a plurilingual society. The same applies to the varieties of French, between a purist ideology and a diversity of practices, but with a relative relaxation of pronunciation (“accents”) in recent years. The modelling impact of the big Parisian radio stations remains powerful and reinforces the marginalisation of voices that carry other languages and other ways of speaking.
