This article presents Media Interventions initiatives where local media, particularly radio, play a key role in promoting peace by countering incitement to hatred and listening to the voices of the marginalized. It focuses on the Helipa na Ciência project, which uses community radio in the Heliópolis favela to popularize science, promote peace and social justice. Workshops and radio programs run by researchers and young people strengthen the inhabitants’ cultural identity and sense of belonging.
