Public health policy in France is no longer satisfactory. All the reports for more than twenty years show that it is outdated. Inequalities are glaring. The purely accounting-based approach that has prevailed for several decades has had negative consequences that are clear for all to see and must be replaced. The choice to privilege the “cure” over “care” has become obsolete. It is time to rethink the health care system, particularly with regard to child psychiatry, which is in dire straits. Prevention, the poor relation of our care system, must be rethought and reinforced at all organizational and institutional levels.
