If the share of the biographic prevails in Annie Ernaux’s narratives, it also amounts to a terse romantic of situation. It is precisely because current life is also fleeing life that the bases of the narratives (however thought out the latter may be) are floating when the narratives approach a sequence of life and try to elucidate what in life resists meaning. The writing, superimposing its pragmatic dimension (enunciating) and its poetic faculty (evoking), becomes thus fully creative. It is a romantic of knowledge of self and the world under auctorial control, which tries to account for the irreducible part of the living experience to reason.
