The article attempts to retrace the winding itinerary of Lefebvre’s thought, underscoring its continuity with the teaching of Maurice Blondel, who was his master in Aix-en-Provence. The key concept of everyday life is examined through the prism of its relationship with Marxism and the thought of Lukács, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, as well as its links with the distinctive tradition of French Marxism; its fecundity today appears dubious, in the age of ecological crisis.
