“Neither Baptist, nor evangelical, just Christian”: emic designation in two non-denominational Churches in Quebec - 2024.
94
This article draws on a two-year research project on two evangelical Churches in Quebec that are very much in line with the model of “non-denominational” Churches. We focus on the ways they identify and present themselves. To this end, we argue that the two churches’ modes of self-presentation (especially the name) and self-identification aim, firstly, to design a Christianity in line with the realities of a secularised Quebec and, secondly, to distance themselves from Christian institutions (both Catholicism and Protestant denominations) whose reputation has been marred by scandals in the past few decades.
