Empire style’ is a concept that twentieth-century historians have based on the implicit association of art with the imperial regime. Contemporary experts tend to question the relevance and therefore the legitimacy of this term by exposing its artistic and historical inaccuracies. Nevertheless, for the sake of convenience, and also because it still seems effective in characterising a relatively homogeneous artistic phenomenon, some commentators still refer to the notion of Empire style, which seems to have reached an impasse. Is the concept of Empire doomed to obsolescence? Is another way possible?
