Despite a favorable artistic context, scenography still struggles to be recognized as an art form in and of itself, as do, for example, art installations. As we search for the cause of this struggle, it is informative and revealing to look at various current discourses surrounding scenography and all that has been imagined of it, in order to remove any doubt as to its nature and to dispel any misunderstanding. Yet, in trying too hard to legitimize, we risk creating ambiguous situations in which scenography would lose part of its essence, as well as its broad history.
